Job Description

NSW Ecology Team Leader -Senior Ecologist (Associate Level)

The Opportunity

As our ecology practice continues to grow across New South Wales, we’re looking for a talented and driven Senior Ecologist (Associate level) to join our NSW team and take on a key people leadership role within the business.

This is an exciting opportunity to lead and grow our NSW ecology capability, managing a small but expanding team while delivering high-quality ecological outcomes for our clients. You will play a critical role in shaping the future of our NSW ecology services, supporting strategic growth, and expanding our project portfolio.

Join a passionate and collaborative team during an exciting period of growth, where your leadership, technical expertise, and commercial mindset will make a real impact. If you’re ready to step into a senior role with genuine influence and autonomy, we’d love to hear from you.

About you

We are looking for a confident and approachable ecology leader with a strong background in environmental consulting, ideally someone with 12+ years’ experience who has successfully delivered complex ecological projects, built trusted client relationships, and supported the development of teams with diverse experience levels, from early-career ecologists through to senior practitioners.

In this role, you will provide day-to-day people leadership and technical guidance to the NSW ecology team, balancing project delivery with mentoring, workload coordination, and capability development. You are comfortable leading from the front while mentoring others, and you enjoy creating an environment where team members can grow, collaborate, and perform at their best, while contributing to the continued growth of the ecology service line in NSW.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and deliver ecology projects across New South Wales, ensuring high-quality outcomes and client satisfaction.
  • Provide people leadership to the NSW ecology team, including mentoring, workload coordination, and capability development across varying experience levels.
  • Provide technical leadership and review of ecological assessments, reports, and approvals documentation.
  • Drive business development activities, including identifying opportunities and leading proposals and tenders.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key clients, regulators, and stakeholders.
  • Support the strategic growth and direction of the NSW ecology service line and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams nationally.

Ideally you will bring:

  • A relevant degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, or a related discipline.
  • Extensive experience (typically 12+ years, is desired) in the environmental consulting industry.
  • Demonstrated experience leading and mentoring ecology teams.
  • Strong technical capability across ecological assessments, approvals, and reporting.
  • Proven success in business development, including proposals and tenders, and expanding client relationships.
  • Demonstrated health, safety, and environmental leadership.
  • Excellent verbal communication, technical report writing, and quality review skills.
  • Industry recognition through certification, accreditation, and/or active participation in relevant industry associations.
