The Opportunity

As our success and growth continue across Australia, an exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and technically experienced Geotechnical Engineer to join our growing Sydney team.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with 5 to 7 years of experience who is looking to step into a role with greater project responsibility and technical depth. You will collaborate with senior engineers and project managers to plan and deliver field investigations, analyse geotechnical data, and contribute to high-quality technical reports for a range of clients and project types.

At Kleinfelder, we pride ourselves on fostering a supportive, inclusive, and collaborative environment. You will be part of a national team of geotechnical and environmental professionals who are passionate about technical excellence, safety, and continuous learning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare geotechnical fee proposals and tenders.
  • Plan and coordinate geotechnical fieldwork programs, including drilling, sampling, and in-situ testing.
  • Prepare geotechnical logs, interpret field and laboratory data, and contribute to geotechnical analysis and design.
  • Support Project Managers with day-to-day project delivery, including contractor coordination, budgets, and schedules.
  • Prepare clear and technically sound geotechnical reports and recommendations and address client comments and feedback.
  • Liaise with clients, subcontractors, and internal teams to ensure project objectives are achieved.
  • Contribute to a strong safety culture and uphold company values on site and in the office.

About You

You are a proactive, solutions-focused engineer with a solid technical grounding and strong attention to detail. You thrive in the field as much as you do in the office and are eager to continue developing your professional skills and technical expertise.

You will bring:

  • A degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering, Engineering Geology, or a related discipline.
  • Approximately 5 to 7 years’ experience in geotechnical site investigation, analysis, and reporting.
  • Working knowledge of Australian Standards for geotechnical site investigations.
  • Strong technical report-writing and communication skills.
  • Strong field experience, including management of drilling subcontractors.
  • Australian Standard soil and rock logging skills. (Bore DM experience desirable).
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities within project deadlines.
  • Commitment to health, safety, and quality in all aspects of work.
  • A current driver’s licence and willingness to travel for fieldwork.
  • Exceptional verbal communication, technical report-writing, and peer review skills.
  • Industry recognition through certification, accreditation, and/or active participation in related industry associations. RPEQ and/or Chartered Engineer status is desirable.
