Senior Ecologist – BAM Accredited (Newcastle, NSW)

As our ecology practice continues to grow across New South Wales, we are looking for a talented and driven Senior Ecologist to join our NSW team and take on a key BAM project delivery role within the business.

This is an exciting opportunity to lead BAM project teams. You will lead and coordinate field surveys and prepare BAM reports while expanding your experience on renewables, infrastructure, resources, and local government projects.

The Opportunity

We are looking for a BAM accredited assessor with a strong background in environmental consulting, ideally someone with 5+ years' experience who has successfully led field surveys and delivered ecological projects. Experience in the survey and assessment of threatened fauna will be highly regarded.

In this role, you will manage the delivery of BAM projects, including BDARs and BSSARs, prepare proposals, and take a leading role in field surveys. You will be confident in your knowledge of the BAM requirements for survey and reporting and will have prior experience in preparing BAM-C calculations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and deliver ecology projects across New South Wales, ensuring high-quality outcomes and client satisfaction.
  • Plan and oversee the implementation of the BAM, including the planning and execution of field surveys according to the relevant guidelines and best practice.
  • Support the ecology team leader in proposal preparation, BAM project assessment scoping and mentoring junior team members.
  • Confidently lead field teams to safely and effectively conduct surveys with your strong grasp of the logistics of remote fieldwork, ecology WHS issues and field data collection processes.

About You

You will bring:

  • A relevant degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, or a related discipline.
  • Strong experience (typically 5+ years, is desired) in the environmental consulting industry.
  • Current BAM assessor accreditation.
  • Significant experience with threatened species survey and assessment under the BAM, especially microbats, amphibians and mammals,
  • Experience delivering BAM projects as the lead assessor, including consultation with planning authorities, species experts etc. will be highly regarded.
  • Demonstrated experience leading project field surveys and reporting.
  • Proven success in project management of ecological assessments.
  • Excellent verbal communication and technical report writing skills,
