The successful applicant will have the opportunity to work on a portfolio of diverse ecology projects for a growing client base in both the public and private sector. The Opportunity Reporting to the Ecology Team Leader, you will participate in a variety of interesting ecological projects, working within a multi-disciplinary team of scientists, engineers and business development professionals. - Plan and conduct flora and fauna surveys in accordance with applicable regulatory standards and guidelines, including capture of digital data and field samples, to a high degree of competency. - Undertake fieldwork work competently and safely by complying with relevant H&S requirements, including internal Kleinfelder and external client procedures. - Preparation of monitoring reports and assessments to a proficient standard and assist Senior Ecologists in the preparation of more complex deliverables such as Biodiversity Stewardship Site Assessment Reports (BSSARs) and Biodiversity Development Assessment Reports (BDARs). - Assist Project Managers in the tracking of project budgets and schedules. - Participate in training and development opportunities with senior staff to broaden your skills and technical ability. - Represent Kleinfelder at an industry level by participating in external forums and membership of professional institutions. About You We are seeking a talented and ambitious ecologist who desires to advance their career with a global environmental consultancy. Applicants will be highly regarded if they have an in-depth knowledge and practical application of National and State Regulations and Guidelines and their application to ecological assessments. Awareness and practical application of the NSW Biodiversity Offset Scheme (BOS) and the Biodiversity Assessment Method (BAM 2020) through fieldwork and reporting is preferred, with a strong desire to be working towards BAM accreditation, mentored by our existing team of BAM accredited ecologists. Desired Education, Experience and Skills: - A relevant degree in environmental science (ecology) natural resource management or a related discipline. A higher degree will be considered favourably. However, suitably experienced applicants who are working towards a relevant degree will also be considered. - Minimum 4 years’ of experience in the environmental consulting industry. - Well-developed Flora and Fauna identification skills. - Experience undertaking BAM vegetation integrity plots including the ability to use identifications keys and knowledge of local flora species. - Experience of performing threatened species surveys. - Demonstrated experience in the delivery of a variety of ecology projects, with a strong emphasis on vegetation assessment and rehabilitation monitoring across a range of market sectors for both public and private clients. - Industry recognition through certification, accreditation and/or active participation in related industry associations. Due to our success and growth, an opportunity has arisen for qualified and experienced Land management technicians / Supervisors / Bush Regenerators who want to further develop their career into an exciting role to join our Newcastle team.   The Role In this role you will be undertaking various vegetation management and rehabilitation activities for private industry and government authorities as a member of a professional team.  Tasks that are part of the role include weed control and bush regeneration, native tree planting, brushcutting, hand weeding, chemical spraying, vegetation clearing for bushfire management and more. Successful applicants that join our team will have demonstrated work ethic, be fit and punctual, and display excellent communication skills. You will have the ability to work effectively as part of a team and show initiative where required, follow instructions and have a willingness and desire to improve your skills and knowledge in bushland restoration and plant identification.   About you You will bring:  - At least 12 months weed control experience including herbicide application (high volume and backpack), brushcutting, and manual control techniques; - A general knowledge of vegetation communities including local native plant and weed species; - Completed or enrolled in Certificate in Conservation & Land Management or related qualification relevant to bushland management; - Practical knowledge of work health and safety policies and procedures, risk management practice and principles; - Ability to operate vehicles and field equipment; - Physical fitness, a solid work ethic, self-motivation and ability to function in a team environment; - A current NSW driver's licence; - White Card (construction induction); - ACDC/ChemCert qualifications;  - 5-day availability (Mon – Fri); - Available to regularly work away from home for up to 5 days at a time (multiple times a month); - Strong attention to detail and company policies, codes and values;  - A proven track record of hard work.
